What is it about?
This is one of the first studies to quantitatively examine student activist burnout outcomes, such as psychological distress and academic disengagement, among college students. The findings highlight how participation in campus activism can be deleterious to Black college students’ academic performance. Study implications call for higher education educators to guide Black student activists to prioritize their academic responsibilities over their activism efforts. Above all, study implications highlight the demand for campus leaders to intentionally and strategically address racism on campus, unburdening Black students from this chore.
