What is it about?

Leaders' diversity-related attitudes relate to greater awareness of bias among employees - male employees, in particular. In turn, awareness of bias relates to employees' endorsement of institutional diversity efforts long-term. In this way, leaders' attitudes toward diversity appear to "trickle down" to their employees.

Why is it important?

Garnering employee support of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts is increasingly important. We contribute to identifying a social relationship that appears to heighten employees' awareness of inequities at work and in turn, their support of DEI-related initiatives. This work suggests that leaders are role models and educators for diversity-related initiatives.
