What is it about?

Latinx adolescents’ attitudes and beliefs about their ethnic/racial group membership, or ethnic-racial identity, are related to their educational adjustment. The results of the current study extend this idea by suggesting that how adolescents perceive society’s view of their ethnic group directly supports their beliefs about mastering schoolwork, their educational values, and their academic performance. Moreover, the findings suggest that Latinx adolescents’ positive feelings and connections to their ethnic group relate to their beliefs that they can master schoolwork, which, in turn, relates to improved grades and valuation of education.
