What is it about?

Women participated in 8 weeks of group therapy and we evaluated pain intensity, sexual function, and various psychological endpoints after treatment and up to a year. Both treatments worked, and continued to show improvements a year later. We then compared the different underlying mechanisms by which CBT and mindfulness were effective.

Why is it important?

This is the first study to show mindfulness is as effective, and for the long-term, for women with provoked genital pain. Understanding the mechanisms by which these treatments are effective helps better understand the nature of provoked vestibulodynia.
