What is it about?
Our Multidimensional Gender Dysphoria Measure was developed to assess both body and social gender dysphoria, and to capture how gender is experienced in a social context. We have used this conceptualization to propose a model of gender dysphoria from a systems-based approach which better addresses how gender dysphoria is experienced in the real world.

Why is it important?
This model provides a useful clinical and research framework to better conceptualize the complexity of gender dysphoria and the dynamic interplay in which it is socially navigated. Importantly, this model was developed based on the lived experiences of transgender and nonbinary individuals - so it captures how gender dysphoria is navigated in the real-world context.
Perspectives
As a trans health researcher I am committed to doing research that reflects community experiences and not just clinicians' impressions of what trans people experience. Our model was developed based on research that prioritizes the perspectives of trans people. Ultimately this means that, using our model, we can better address and support trans people's well-being.
