What is it about?
In this study we explore whether depressive symptoms in the perinatal period could be categorized into several distinct trajectories of symptom development among subgroups of perinatal women, and to identify predictors of these trajectory groups. Through growth mixture modeling based on piecewise growth curves, four classes of depressive symptom trajectories were identified: pregnancy only, postpartum only, moderate-persistent, and minimum symptoms .

Why is it important?
Since women's depressive symptoms during the perinatal period probably do not follow a uniform course, it is important to investigate the heterogeneity of time courses and associated factors.
Perspectives
It's enlightening to learn about the heterogeneity in temporal patterns of elevated depressive mood, and that specific trajectories of time courses may be related to distinct adversity factors. This is a call for attention to the multiple courses of elevated perinatal depressive mood.
