What is it about?
Brain fog adversely affects the ability of many adults with Long COVID to carry out everyday activities, including work. This initial randomized controlled trial tested whether a novel approach to cognitive rehabilitation reduced brain fog symptoms and the disability that accompanies them in 14 adults with Long COVID. We compared the novel approach to treatment-as-usual.

Why is it important?
Our novel approach to cognitive rehabilitation combined cognitive processing speed training with behavior change techniques designed to promote transfer from the treatment setting to daily life. We showed that this approach produced large improvements in brain fog symptoms, performance of everyday activities, and employment status. Eighty percent of the experimental group who had not retired prior to getting COVID-19 returned to full employment, while none did in the treatment-as-usual group. Cognitive processing speed also improved.
Perspectives
I hope that readers come away with the message that there is hope- that Long COVID brain fog can be treated.
