What is it about?

Most people have heard the phrase 'pass the dutchie' about sharing cannabis. However, cannabis is also a valuable commodity for those that use it. We examined whether different experiences using cannabis would effect how much cannabis is shared.

Why is it important?

Showing that people who currently use cannabis are less likely to share cannabis as social distance increases may provide a novel behavioral marker for cannabis dependence. As more areas of the United States legalize cannabis use, finding reliable and valid measures for cannabis misuse will become more important.

Perspectives

Our college-aged population showed a surprisingly systematic relationship between different cannabis use experiences and sharing. This has now been replicated for 4 consecutive semesters and counting.
