What is it about?

In the view of many clinicians, Borderline Personality Disorders are difficult or impossible to treat, thus being a life-long destiny and a stigma if the diagnosis is used early in life. With our clinical study we want to demonstrate that specialized treatment approaches like Adolescent Identity Treatment (AIT) or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT-A) lead to substantial improvements in the life of adolescents who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder, ranging from better psychosocial adaptation to less self-injurious behavior, diminished suicidality and better personality functioning.

Why is it important?

By showing that early intensive interventions like DBT-A or AIT are effective treatments for young people with Borderline personality disorder, we want to encourage psychiatrists and psychotherapists to focus on early assessment and intervention of this disorder. This may help to prevent a chronification of the disorder and long-lasting functional impairment.
