What is it about?
Emotion regulation difficulties are important concepts to understand mental health. They comprise aspects like emotional awareness, clarity, difficulties modulating responses, or how negative emotions are viewed. Mostly, these aspects have been assessed as relatively stable personal dispositions. We tried to translate common assessment tools to daily life, exploring how dynamic the phenomenon is and how it relates to experiencing stressors and negative emotions.

Why is it important?
Establishing emotion regulation difficulties as dynamically changing "moment-to-moment" daily life phenomena is crucial step towards understanding mental health problems both where and when they happen.
Perspectives
This paper was a huge effort, containing 11 (mostly preregistered) hypothesis and a particular emphasis on providing data and code in a reusable way. I was stunned by the temporal stability we see in emotion regulation difficulties, especially compared to negative emotional experiences, while still clearly seeing how they are affected by dynamic momentary influences.
