What is it about?
This study explores the lives of male Indian classical dancers, highlighting the duality of dance as a sanctuary and a stressor. As male Indian classical dancers negotiate and redefine norms of masculinity, the study calls for recognition of diverse masculine identities within traditionally feminized spaces.

Why is it important?
In this paper, I report on journeys of male Indian classical dancers and uncover mental health intricacies in these journeys. This is significant because it brings out a novel interplay between evolving definitions of masculinity, societal stigma, role of dance and impact on mental health.
Perspectives
We live in a world where change is the only norm and this becomes a foundation for my research revealing how male Indian classical dancers negotiate their identities, masculinities in face of stigma and rigid gender norms. The lens of interpretative phenomenological approach has enriched the understanding of these nuances to reach implications which address policy making, mental health and a broader theoretical understanding.
