What is it about?
A review of recent Applied Cognitive Science research in South Africa. We focus in particular on how the work reflects the context in which it is conducted, which is to say in a country with a conflictual, colonial past. Much of the work reviewed is aimed at making a practical difference to both research and practice in South Africa.

There is no other review of Applied Cognitive Science research in South Africa, so this is an important contribution for readers interested in the topic both within and outside of South Africa.
Perspectives
We responded to the request for articles in JARMAC on Applied Cognitive Science around the world. In doing so, we had cause to reflect on the nature and purpose of Applied Cognitive research in South Africa both by ourselves, but also by colleagues in other institutions in South Africa. It illustrated the significance of this research, but also the challenges in getting it recognised by important stakeholders in South Africa.
