What is it about?

The majority of research on flow in sports (also known as ‘getting in the zone’) has focused on cisgender, heterosexual mainstream athletic experiences. The authors provide an overview of the house and ball culture, the historical underpinnings of this subculture and its significance to black and brown LGBTQ+ youth and adults. Further, the authors conclude with a discussion on the intersection of flow experiences, meaning in life as well as the healing and liberating effects of house and ball culture and vogue performance.
