What is it about?
This study addresses a gap in research on pediatric obesity programs' effects on mental health for families in rural areas. iAmHealthy, a rurally tailored telehealth pediatric obesity intervention, significantly reduced child depression and parent distress. Parents with distress benefited most, showing decreases in BMI.

Why is it important?
Results suggest such programs may benefit mental health for families in rural communities, who face limited access to mental healthcare and are disproportionately affected by obesity.
Perspectives
As someone whose research centers on promoting healthy behaviors to improve both the physical and mental well-being of youth, I found this manuscript particularly compelling. It explores an often-overlooked connection: whether interventions targeting physical health—especially in rural areas—can also create meaningful shifts in mental health.
