What is it about?

This paper describes how the integration of community health workers can help expand the behavioral health workforce capacity and expand access to social determinants of health in rural school-based communities. We discuss logistical ways to incorporate community health care workers.

Why is it important?

By evaluating how healthcare-community partnerships can effectively address social determinants of health through technology-enabled and community-based strategies, we aim to create a sustainable model to be replicated in other rural communities. Addressing social determinants of health earlier on in school-aged children can positively impact brain health and brain aging later in life.

Perspectives

I hope that others are able to use this article to help find novel ways to bolster social determinants of health and community-based support in communities.
