What is it about?

This study represents a meta-analysis, which is an analytic technique that allows researchers to compile statistics from many studies on the same topic. Findings revealed that learning strategy instruction benefits metacognitive monitoring.

Why is it important?

This is important because studies on the effects of learning strategy instruction on metacognitive monitoring have been inconsistent regarding their findings, with some reporting no effects, others reporting moderate effects, and yet others reporting large effects. This inconsistency needed to be explained by potential moderators of study effects.

Perspectives

This publication represents the crowning achievement of my career to date. It took many months of intense labor and research to produce this publication. As my passion and interest is to deepen my understanding of metacognition more generally and metacognitive monitoring more specifically, this meta-analysis truly helped to strengthen my understanding of the effects of learning strategy interventions on metacognitive monitoring accuracy and what moderators influence this effect.
