What is it about?
High temperature shape memory polymers (SMPs) are suitable candidates for structures demanding light weight and large recoverable strains in various fields that undergo high temperatures

Why is it important?
The high temperature shape memory PI may provide unique solution to numerous applications requiring high temperature shape memory effects, such as deployable space structures (e.g. solar arrays hinges and trusses to move mirrors), morphing structures (e.g. ailerons of aircrafts and temporary shelters), smart jet propulsion system, high temperature sensors and actuators, etc
Perspectives
PI has been used as bushings, bearings, socket and other constructive parts, and the combination of shape memory effects will extend its applications.
