Why is it important?

Richard was a pioneer in the field of music technology, electroacoustic composition, educational initiatives in drawing together the musical and technical aspects of contemporary music today, software design and innovative social business models.

Perspectives

I worked closely with Richard for many years. He was an intensely creative person and it was most stimulating to share and develop ideas with him, particularly when we began collaborating on some new composition software. My aim in this article has been to show what a pivotal role he has played in the evolution of electroacoustic music and its related technical education in this country. Through his own work in composition, education and writing, and through his many professional contacts throughout the country, I believe he has been a seminal figure of great significance.
