Why is it important?
Jackson's efforts in this expedition were overshadowed by the chance meeting with Fridtjof Nansen who had been absent in the Arctic for 3 years. Unfortunately, Jackson's approach was based on ponies which led Antarctic explorers to use them without considering the differences between exploration in the Arctic and the conditions of the Antarctic.
