What is it about?

Once a person experiences hate in a relationship it becomes difficult to let go. Satisfaction and intimacy seem to be negatively impacted by the presence of hate, even when love may still be present.

Why is it important?

It is assumed that love is more powerful than hate, but this study demonstrates that this is an unfounded assumption and to really handle our hate, we must come to terms with how it develops.

Perspectives

Adding empirical evidence to how hate develops in relationships is important given that current literature is mostly theoretical. Additionally, this research may explain why areas of love and hate in the brain are so closely related.
