What is it about?

This paper presents a computational model of working memory and its modulation by dopamine D1 receptors. Both stability of memory and attention, or signal-to-noise ratio, are affected by dopamine.

Why is it important?

This model shows that dopamine affects tuning curves, making them sharper under increased stimulation. The results are significant for neuromodulation of tuning curves in other areas as well.

Perspectives

This paper was on of the first models of dopamine and working memory. Not only does it explain reverberatory activity, it also shows how dopamine has an attentional effect, and vice versa, how attention may be mostly a neuromodulatory phenomenon.
