What is it about?

Within the framework of the intensity-dependent Jaynes-Cummings model, a field initially in a statistical mixture of coherent states evolves to a pure superposition of coherent states (Schroedinger cat).

Why is it important?

This is a deterministic scheme in which an initial mixed state of the field is transformed into a pure state. The initial atomic state must be pure, and after the conversion the atom is naturally left in a mixed state.
