Why is it important?

Application of this bauccal tablet to the buccal mucosa of beagle dogs showed prolonged time of blood nitroglycerin with bioavailability increase (avoidance of first pass effect).

Perspectives

This buccal dosage form is very simple and applicable to any drugs (ex. morphine and fentanyl). The applications to some durgs exhibiting large first-pass efeect are demonstrated in the book (Modified-release drug delivery technology, Mracel Dekker).
