What is it about?

We analysed the pathogenesis of four Brazilian orf virus isolates in lambs. In addition, Sequences of three putative virulence genes were analyzed and the identity of genes VEGF e IL-10v with other sequences was somehow correlated with the virulence in vivo.

Why is it important?

The analyzed genes generally encode functions related to host range, virulence and immunomodulation. In this study, one of the four virus isolates used in the infection was less virulent and presented some differences in the amino acids sequences of VEGF and vIL-10 genes.

Perspectives

It has been reported that some viral islados of ORFV are more virulent than others. In the preparation of some mutant viruses it was demonstrated the participation of some genes in modulating the immune response of the host and the virulence mechanisms. Still open the question of what have those more aggressive virus in relation to others. This is an good matter is follow this line of the study.
