What is it about?

The covid-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions in the road system, with lockdown measures significantly impacting traffic volumes and driver behavior. This study examines the impact of these restrictions on crashes on motorway A29 in Portugal, finding that certain variables such as curvature change rate, presence of deceleration lane remain significant factors in accident occurrence, suggesting that traditional statistical models can be applied consistently before and during the pandemic.

Why is it important?

It was found that the presence of motorways exits is a variable that significantly increases the probabilities of accident occurrence. However, entrances did not significantly affect safety

Perspectives

Increasign the sample, adding other variables and adjusting the model using random parameters are future lines of research.
