What is it about?

In 2012 there was a surge in medical admissions and deaths (all-cause mortality) across the UK. Those with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and dementia experienced the greatest increase in deaths. A potential role for Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is explored.

Why is it important?

Over 50,000 excess deaths occurred during the 2012 event. This has never been explained. Indeed why were those with neurological disorders so sensitive to the agent behind the unexplained higher admissions and deaths?
