What is it about?

The process of preparing organic fertilizers for use in agriculture is a labour-intensive and time-consuming procedure. It would take between 8 to 12 hours for the mixing machine to complete its mixing cycle of one batch, during this whole time, an operator would need to monitor the progress of the mixing process and adjust if needed. This paper presents an IoT-enabled fertilizer mixer to reduce costs and work hours.

Why is it important?

Rather than tying workers to monitor a mundane process for 12 hours, this work presents an Autonomous Fertilizer mixer that performs all the needed work autonomously, i.e. feeding organic material, mixing, monitoring progress through built-in sensors, and releasing the mixed fertilizers for use in the field. At the same time, the autonomous mixer also broadcasts its progress and notifications to the workers or managers (through IoT), who can view the progress through their mobile devices or any connected machine for that matter. Thus freeing the workforce to focus on other tasks and reducing operational costs and work hours.
