Why is it important?

We discovered two different peptide sequences within the myocilin olfactomedin domain that form bona fide amyloid fibrils. These amyloid structures are seen in the glaucoma-causing variants. By understanding the amyloid state of myocilin, it will be possible to develop an approach inhibit the interaction with small molecules that could serve as a therapeutic for this form of glaucoma.
