What is it about?

It refers on the variability of microbial biomass and activities involved in carbon cycle (hydrolysis, mineralization and secondary production processes) and their temporal evolution in the Ionian basin.

Why is it important?

These data are the first obtained in the microbial processes involved in Carbon cycling in the Ionian Sea.

Perspectives

In the light of climate changes occuring in recent years, aquisition of long term data series is important to get a complete scenario of plankton (specifically prokaryotic) dynamics.
