What is it about?

We studied how different eye exercise regimes changed focusing responses in normal young adults. A very simple exercise strategy (convergence exercises) proved more effective than more complex methods, but the most effective method of all was to simply encourage the participants to just try harder.

Why is it important?

It highlights that the interaction between the therapist and patient may be equally or more important than the eye exercises themselves. Researchers need to pay very close attention to HOW treatment is explained and encouraged, and not just the treatment given, if claims for treatment effects are to be justified.
