What is it about?

Flow and heat transfer over open cavities arise in many engineering applications is solar energy collectors, air cooling systems , thermal insulation in buildings, food processing, and electronics cooling. We study numerically the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the self-sustained oscillations of the impinging shear layers.

Why is it important?

There are relatively few stud- ies that deal with the investigation of mixed convection heat transfer in channels with a double cavity configuration with localized heat sources. In particular, studies that address the oscillatory flow and heat transfer characteristics of this particular configuration under varying thermal buoyancy and duct orientation have been practically overlooked.
