What is it about?

In order to identify, classify, and summarize the Demand Response (DR) applications in the industry, this work carries out an investigation in the form of a systematic mapping, comprising manufacturing and production processes that adopt this type of program. The literature review covers the period from 2013 to June 2022, with a focus on the implementation of DR in the manufacturing processes, as well as in the identification and classification of aspects related to the understanding and formulation of the problem and possible solution strategies.

Why is it important?

Unlike the existing literature that relates DR and industry, this study focuses specifically on the implementation of DR in manufacturing processes, identifying and classifying the main aspects related to problem modeling and solution strategies.

Perspectives

Smart grids and their respective components, e.g., DR, play an important role in the context of sustainable manufacturing since they allow monitoring and managing the power demand dynamically, as well as improving the generation capacity from renewable energy sources. In addition, by monitoring the machines and using optimization schedules, the energy supply can be dynamically adjusted, reducing waste and increasing energy savings, which contribute to energy sustainability
