What is it about?

The UK has experienced an extended period of unexplained higher deaths commencing in 2012. At the same time, medical admissions have shown an inexplicable increase which is age-specific. Adjusting for population demographic changes makes little impact on the magnitude of the change which appears to be driven by end-of-life processes.

Why is it important?

The government has been blaming the NHS for inefficiency and inability to manage demand. It would seem that whatever has precipitated these changes is outside of the control of the NHS.

Perspectives

The cause of the rise in deaths appears to be a previously unrecognized infectious agent, earlier papers have demonstrated small-area infectious spread. Government agencies have maintained a studious silence. For the full list of associated research go to: http://www.hcaf.biz/2010/Publications_Full.pdf
