An outline of what Open PHACTS is

What is it about?

This paper discusses the Open PHACTS project. It uses semantic web standards and technologies to integrate and map of chemical and biological data sets. It discussed the influence of data quality, crowdsourcing and curation on the resulting database. It finished with describing how Open PHACTS improves the academic and industrial drug discovery.

Why is it important?

Open PHACTS is tackling some serious underlying issues in linking available data sources, including the lack of a common language, differences in how data sets model knowledge, and the meaning of a link between "same" entries in different databases.
