What is it about?

A role for high concentrations of extracellular S100A4, a calcium-binding EF-hand protein, in reducing inter-endothelial tight junction integrity has been demonstrated. This may be a mechanism by which melanoma cells can somehow shoot their way into the brain to metastasize. The blocking of this mechanism represents an interesting therapeutic target.
