What is it about?
I am happy to share our latest paper investigating how ocean temperatures shape sea breezes. By modeling the northern Yucatán Peninsula, we found that uniform ocean warming can actually weaken these coastal winds by up to 55%. However, localized cold-water upwelling acts as a major amplifier, boosting breeze intensity and sending them further inland. https://lnkd.in/gCiN7Bsb

Why is it important?
Coastal breezes strongly influence the daily lives of millions of people living along shorelines.
Perspectives
Future research using a multi-case ensemble is required to test the stability of these sensitivities under varying larger-scale forcings (Allende-Arandía et al., 2020; Lombardo et al., 2018).
