What is it about?

In traditional shrimp farming, the fishmeal replacement remains as a difficult task. The substitute ingredients must be digestible, preferable without anti-nutritional compounds, and they need to contain an adequate amino acid profile. The microbial biofloc contains high protein quality as well as immunostimulants, enzymes, etc.

Why is it important?

For more than four decades, the worldwide shrimp culture has rapidly growth resulting in an increase of pelletized feed demand year by year.

Perspectives

The results suggest that biofloc could provide high quality protein and essential fatty acids in situ to compensate the partial fishmeal substitution in shrimp farming.
