What is it about?

We look at self assembly of quantum dots on semiconductor surfaces and determine the interplay of composition fluctuations and surface energy

Why is it important?

Self assembled quantum dots were a hot topic at the time and controlling growth was a big challenge. This work tried to propose a mechanism with a view of controlling it.

Perspectives

At the time this was a hot topic because of prospects for optoelectronic devices. To date there are commercial application of self assembled QDs at 1.3um for optical networks. It is now a technological reality and less of a science question.
