What is it about?

The acute-stage intraoperative findings of the spinal dural laceration in patients with traumatic CSF leakage have not been clearly revealed so far. Herein, we report such a case at the C1/2 level.

Why is it important?

The acute-stage intraoperative findings of the spinal dural laceration in patients with traumatic CSF leakage have not been clearly revealed so far. CSF leakage at the C1/2 level is generally an indirect pathological condition in a patient with wide-range spinal epidural CSF leakage due to the natural deficit of the ligamentum flavum. However, the possibility of a direct leakage should be considered when the preoperative findings of CSF leakage are localized at this level.

Perspectives

The variations in the pathogenesis of traumatic spinal CSF leak should be investigated in future studies.
