What is it about?

This paper delves into the effectiveness of Agri-Environmental Schemes, a topic often explored for its environmental impact but seldom for economic aspects. Using the concept of eco-efficiency, the study examines how participating in these schemes affects Hungarian field crop farmers.

Why is it important?

he research uncovers significant potential to enhance eco-efficiency in Hungarian crop farms. Surprisingly, no significant differences in eco-efficiency were found between participating and non-participating farmers concerning farm income, pesticides, fertilizers, and energy use. These results raise important questions about the overall efficacy of the Agri-Environmental Scheme in achieving both environmental and economic goals.

The results prompt a critical examination of the scheme's effectiveness in simultaneously achieving environmental and economic objectives, raising important considerations for future policy and program adjustments.
