What is it about?
Spearman's hypothesis is a theorized explanation of the reason why score gaps between demographic groups on cognitive tests are larger for some tests than others. In this article I tested whether Spearman's hypothesis applies to a set of academic tests.

Why is it important?
Spearman's hypothesis has important implications to understanding achievement gaps among demographic groups, the nature of cognitive abilities, and educational testing. By showing that Spearman's hypothesis (mostly) applies to academic tests, this article shows that it is not an esoteric property of IQ or cognitive testing.
