What is it about?
In this work, the near-field of a turbulent planar impinging jet emanating from the top/bottom wall of an open cavity subjected to an external downstream channel flow has been carried out. Comprehensive flow visualization images of the flow patterns illustrate the influence of the external lateral flow on the slot jet interaction, formation and size of the vortical structures, and their complex flow dynamics under the presence of confining walls.

Why is it important?
Because of their low cost and simple design, single impinging planar jets are frequently used in numerous industrial and engineering applica- tions for mixing enhancement or intensifying transfer processes in het- erogeneous systems , ventilation and air conditioning systems , thermal insulation of refrigerated display cabinets , fuel in- jection systems, cooling of electronic components and gas turbine blades, to name a few.
