What is it about?

The flow structure and impinging interactions of two confined turbulent converging jets in crossflow is studied experimentally for equal and non-equal discharge velocities of the jets, and their effect on the jets' trajectories, penetration and spreading characteristics are presented.

Why is it important?

Practical applications of twin jet impingement systems include drying and cooling of paper, textiles, and polymer films, fuel and chemical mixers, cooling of electronic equipment, heating and air conditioning systems, exhaust stacks, fuel injection systems in propulsion devices, boiler burners for combustion systems, engine exhausts, cooling of turbine blades, de-icing of aircraft wings, and V/STOL aircraft.
