What is it about?

When citizens get together and build their own energy system we call it community energy. We wanted to know how the ongoing COVID19 pandemic affected these kinds of projects. We asked people who work a lot with these community groups to find out.

Why is it important?

Community energy projects are a very important piece in the puzzle to a climate-friendly energy system. This is why the EU supports these kinds of projects through supportive legislation. But legislation can only help to some degree and when community groups cannot meet and form, there will be no new community energy projects.

Perspectives

We hope that our work can help policy makers and other actors in the energy system improve the situation for community energy projects. It was fun talking to our interviewees but also sad to see how a lot of great projects cannot move forward or are being cancelled.
