What is it about?
Globally, 20–30 million tons of olive pomace are generated annually and need to be disposed of, and the direct discharge of olive pomace could cause environmental pollution to soil and groundwater due to its acidity and high organic content. This study presents olive pomace as a promising bio-renewable antioxidant that works as a 'sun screen' for asphalt pavement.

Why is it important?
The important innovations of this work are to explore the upcycling of olive pomace as a sustainable antioxidant and recycling agent in asphalt pavement, and to assess the antioxidant performance and cracking/rutting resistance of olive pomace-modified asphalt binders and mixtures.
