What is it about?
Innovative mechanical test for adhesion for plastic materials is reported. We have found that the adhesion interface with van der Waals interaction is much stronger than adherend reinforced by covalent bonds.

Why is it important?
Adhesion of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites plays an important role in transportation industries such as aircrafts and automobiles.
Perspectives
Adhesion interface with van der Waals is flexible, which is ductile in some sense; therefore it is much stronger than covalent bonds in adherend. This fining surprised us very much at the beginning, but it is true.
