What is it about?
It is difficult to assess the quality of the onion bulb. We have used different nondestructive techniques to assess the internal quality of onions and compared the results.

Why is it important?
For the first time, we have compared four novel techniques to evaluate the onion bulbs internal quality. The techniques comprise not only different wavelengths but also the different mode of action.
Perspectives
This article will provide a solid understanding of FTNIR, MSI, and HSI and their ability to determine quality. The results presented in this manuscript will be in the endeavor of adapting spectral imaging with few selective wavelengths in the sorting line of onions.
