What is it about?

This study uses the behavior health model with a modification to determine what barriers exist for gay and bisexual men living in Oklahoma have when attempting to access mental health care.

Why is it important?

Our findings demonstrated that other than having a previous mental health diagnosis, the level a person discloses their sexual orientation predicts their use of mental health services. Those who are not out are much less likely to seek services, and these individuals may benefit the most from them. It is important to note how the structural stigma of living in a socio-politically conservative area can impact the ability to access care.
