What is it about?

This is the continuation of our previous work where we found new polymorph of metacetamol. Now thermal analysis was applied to control formation of new polymorph. Metacetamol II does not form with cooling rates of 24, 12 or 3 K/min, only at 6K/min. Cooling faster or slower - one will get more stable metacetamol I. Tricky, but interesting polymorphism story!

Why is it important?

This is one of rare examples how cooling rate influence crystallization of iether stable or metastable polymorph. Metacetamol is also a structural isomer of paracetamol, which also shows polymorphism during thermal changes

Perspectives

Formation of the new phase of metacetamol II could be studied with other physico-chemical methods. It is important and interesting to understand which factors and why direct the formation of the new phase
