What is it about?

The study examines how contract farming can help farmers develop resilience to the effects of climate change on their livelihoods. While many people argue that contract farming is not beneficial to farmers, we discover that there are often important benefits that are overlooked. The provision of managerial training and extension to farmers, in addition to modern agricultural practices or improved techniques enable farmers to cope and adapt to climate change impacts.

Why is it important?

The study is the very first to examine a two-way relationship between contract farming and climate change adaptation. Considering the importance of climate change impacts on rural livelihoods, many studies are finding sustainable ways to increase the resilience to climate change. This study uncovers an innovative, yet mutually beneficial way to increase farmer resilience to climate change.

Perspectives

The approach used to address the leading hypothesis is vigorous and findings confirm the empirics.
